Accent Inns, Hotel Zed & ROAR are three unique brands but we’re all one big, happy, (slightly gooofy) Fam-Jam. And we care. A lot. We lead with love, and we always make our team our number one priority. Why? Because when you’re loved hard, you love hard. I love working at Hotel Zed because I feel empowered and encouraged to be myself every single day. The first few days of my journey working for this company felt like I was shedding tons of dead weight from being a cog in the hospitality machine, at times losing my identity by putting on a facade and just going through the motions of the daily grind. Here, I feel accepted and valued for being myself and “being real” while being mindful with my colleagues and guests.

What I love the most about this place is our culture and core values. We are truly a family here. When I am having a difficult day there are always people around me that make it better. We’re a big group of weirdos and it’s absolutely awesome. We all care for one another and are diligent about having each other’s backs. I’ve been in so many kitchens where the only time I’d be around the rest of the team was at work but at ROAR we all go surfing together, hiking together, fishing together. We love spending time with each other outside of the kitchen as much as we do inside of it. It is such a unique environment to be in!

The Achieving Awesome Program is nice because it helps with our groceries, or to buy a little something to celebrate that we did a great job! It’s like when you are a student you get good grades as a reward for doing a great job, the program is kind of like getting to see our good grades because we gave it 100%.

As someone who loves to travel, not only do I get to stay in awesome places around BC for a great rate, I also get to offer my friends and family the same perk. I like the Pickle Program very much, I’m currently working on enacting a Pickler of the month and year version for the staff based on how many the get and received. I find it’s a great way to show appreciation for each other, and get rewarded while doing it.

No matter what way I turn, here the company always has my back. The President of the company has said to call him personally if I need anything to do with my son, who is unwell. The company offered to fly me to Ottawa to be with my son during treatment. When I visit my son in Burnaby, I don’t ever have to pay for my stay. No matter what I need if they can possibly do it, they will. I cannot say enough good things about working here.

I was really excited to hand out gift cards in our community. The workers reactions were priceless! They couldn’t believe that they were being recognized and it was so nice to do this for them. Many of our employees take the bus every day and care about their drivers. BC Transit drivers are COVID heroes. They’ve been delivering service throughout the pandemic to get British Columbians where they need to go. We wanted to show them love, appreciation and thanks!

The crazy part about the Got Your Back Fund is that I didn’t have to ask or apply. My boss knows me and cares about me enough to actually know how I am doing. When she called me to tell me that they knew we were having a tough time and offered to pay for my daughter’s tutoring, I was taken back by emotions. My daughter (age 14) moved up three reading grades in just over three months. I genuinely love Accent Inns and cannot be more thankful to work here.
